Carpet - Scope of work

This reference guide, from the NFCA manual, covers the scope of work normally covered under carpet flooring installations. The work included or excluded may vary due to local or Provincial Bid Depository rules or local trade practice.
1 • WORK INCLUDED
Carpet work shall include, but not be limited to, the following:
1.    Verification of moisture and alkalinity testing by others.
2.    Minor preparation of substrate surfaces including filler and primer, to extent noted in the NFCA Reference Manual.
3.    Acclimatization of all materials.
4.    Approved panel underlayment when specified prior to the installation of carpet flooring.
5.    Carpet cushion (underlay).
6.    Broadloom carpet for:
  • Tacked installations.
  • Tack-less installations.
  • Direct glue down installations
  • Wall carpet.
  • Base, excluding metal wall capping, incorporated in wall structure.
  • Specialty installation such as display stands, etc.
  • Outdoor / exterior installation.
7.    Modular carpet or tile for loose laid and glue-down installations.
8.    Fixed carpet mats and runners when specified in conjunction with regular carpet installation, or when sold separately
9.    Carpet accessories, including:
  • binder bars.
  • reducing strips.
  • nosings (other than wood or metal).
10.    Resilient (rubber and vinyl) and wood base and stair stringers when so specified.
11.    Adhesives with application.
12.    Seaming plans when so specified.
13.    Removal of packaging material and remnants specifically pertaining to this trade.
14.    Provision and packaging of maintenance materials and excess stock as specified.
15.    Provision of care and maintenance instructions for Owners Maintenance Manual.
16.    All carpet cash allowance and/or contingency funds specifically called for in the Contract Documents (specifications).

2 • WORK NOT INCLUDED
Carpet work shall not include the following:
1.    Temporary heat, ventilation, light, and power facilities and services.
2.    Water.
3.    Hoarding and barricades.
4.    Hoisting.
5.    Secure, heated, on-site storage.
6.    Shop drawings.
7.    Substrate testing including moisture (vapour emission) and alkalinity tests in accordance with requirements of Part A11 - Substrate Testing. Note that this work may be included in the work where flooring is the only contract (as in the installation of carpet in existing rooms or areas).
8.    All other preparation of surfaces required for installation of carpet flooring including supply and installation of self-levelling cementitious underlayments and poured latex toppings in accordance with requirements of Part A13 - Patching and Filling.
9.    Trowelled-on latex underlayment except when specified in conjunction with specific installation systems.
10.    Base to demountable partitions, unless specified.
11.    Loose laid carpet mats and runners.
12.    Carpet as an integral part of access flooring systems, unless otherwise specified.
13.    Carpet bulletin and tack boards on walls.
14.    Final cleaning, except as noted in the NFCA Reference Manual.
15.    Maintenance and protection of installed carpet flooring prior to Substantial Performance. Such protection shall be provided by others using materials and methods acceptable to the carpet manufacturer.
16.    Repairs to damage by others during and after completion of work.
