This reference guide, from the NFCA manual, covers the scope of work normally covered under Hardwood flooring installations. The work included or excluded may vary due to local or Provincial Bid Depository rules or local trade practice.
1 • WORK INCLUDED
Hardwood work shall include, but not be limited to, the following:
1. Verification of moisture and alkalinity testing by others. This may mean conducting moisture indicator testing (not moisture detection testing) in accordance
with Part A11 - Substrate Testing.
2. Minor preparation of substrate surfaces including filler and primer, to extent noted in the NFCA Reference Manual.
3. Acclimatization of all materials.
4. Approved moisture barrier or sheathing membrane when specified.
5. Approved resilient / acoustical underlayment when specified.
6. All hardwood flooring including, but not limited to the following:
9. All fasteners required for installation (nails, staples, screws, etc.).
10. All site-applied surface finishes, seals, stains, and bleaches, including site touch-up of factory applied finishes or pre-finished flooring
11. Layout / pattern plans when so specified.
12. Removal of packaging material and remnants specifically pertaining to this trade.
13. Provision and packaging of maintenance materials and excess stock as specified.
14. Provision of care and maintenance instructions for Owner's Maintenance Manual.
15. All hardwood flooring cash allowance and/or contingency funds specifically called for in the Contract Documents (specifications).

- strip block flooring.
- sports flooring including sub-floors, resilient pads, vent-cove base, and floor sockets.
- special proprietary hardwood flooring systems.
- wood base and quarter round trim.
- wood stair assemblies (i.e., wood treads, risers, nosings, and stringers (excluding metal nosings) where indicated).
- mouldings and trims.
- reducing / transition strips.
- thresholds.
- expansion fillers.
9. All fasteners required for installation (nails, staples, screws, etc.).

2 • WORK NOT INCLUDED

1. Temporary heat, ventilation, light, and power facilities and services.
2. Water.
3. Hoarding and barricades.
4. Hoisting.
5. Secure, heated, on-site storage.
6. Shop drawings.
7. Substrate testing including moisture (vapour emission) and alkalinity tests in accordance with requirements of Part A11 - Substrate Testing. Note that this work may be include in the work where flooring is the only contract (as in the installation of hardwood flooring in existing rooms or areas) subject to prior agreement with the Owner.
8. All other preparation of surfaces required for installation of hardwood flooring (except as otherwise noted herein).
9. Final cleaning, except as noted in the NFCA Reference Manual.
10. Maintenance and protection of installed hardwood flooring prior to Substantial Performance. Such protection shall be provided by others using materials and methods acceptable to the hardwood flooring manufacturer.
11. Repairs to damage by others during and after completion of work.
