This reference guide, from the NFCA manual, covers the scope of work normally covered under resilient flooring installations. The work included or excluded may vary due to local or Provincial Bid Depository rules or local trade practice.
1 • WORK INCLUDED
Resilient flooring work shall include the following:
1. Verification of moisture and alkalinity testing by others. This may mean conducting moisture indicator testing (not moisture testing) in accordance with Part A11 - Substrate Testing of the NFCA Floor Covering Reference Manual.
2. Minor preparation of substrate surfaces including filler and primer, to extent noted in the NFCA Reference Manual.
3. Acclimatization of all materials.
4. Approved panel underlayment when specified prior to the installation of resilient flooring.
5. Following types of resilient flooring:
8. Resilient floor coverings for exterior locations.
9. Fixed resilient flooring mats and runners when specified in conjunction with regular resilient flooring installation, or when sold separately.
10. Resilient flooring accessories, including:
12. Custom installation requirements when specified (such as heat welding, flash coving, provision of special drains, water jet cutting for inlay work, etc.).
13. Seaming plans when so specified.
14. Removal of packaging material and remnants specifically pertaining to this trade.
15. Provision and packaging of maintenance materials and excess stock as specified.
16. Provision of care and maintenance instructions for Owner's Maintenance Manual.
17. Caulking to own work where required.
18. All resilient flooring cash allowance and/or contingency funds specifically called for in the Contract Documents (specifications).
Resilient flooring work shall include the following:

- Cork tile flooring.
- Specialty resilient flooring (safety flooring, gym flooring, etc.).
- Conductive flooring.
- Vinyl and rubber base.
- Self-cove and flash coved resilient sheet flooring bases including trim capping and cove former strip (drywall to be installed 1/4" short of sub-floor by others to accommodate installation of cove former strip).
8. Resilient floor coverings for exterior locations.
9. Fixed resilient flooring mats and runners when specified in conjunction with regular resilient flooring installation, or when sold separately.
10. Resilient flooring accessories, including:
- reducing / transition strips.
- nosings, including metal.
12. Custom installation requirements when specified (such as heat welding, flash coving, provision of special drains, water jet cutting for inlay work, etc.).
13. Seaming plans when so specified.
14. Removal of packaging material and remnants specifically pertaining to this trade.
15. Provision and packaging of maintenance materials and excess stock as specified.
16. Provision of care and maintenance instructions for Owner's Maintenance Manual.
17. Caulking to own work where required.
18. All resilient flooring cash allowance and/or contingency funds specifically called for in the Contract Documents (specifications).
2 • WORK NOT INCLUDED
Resilient flooring work shall not include the following:
1. Temporary heat, ventilation, light, power, and sanitation.
2. Water.
3. Hoarding and barricades.
4. Hoisting.
5. Secure, heated, on-site storage consistent with normal living conditions and manufacturers product requirements.
6. Shop drawings.
7. Substrate testing including moisture (vapour emission) and alkalinity tests in accordance with requirements of Part A11 - Substrate Testing. Note that this work may be included in the work where flooring is the only contract (as in the installation of resilient flooring in existing rooms or areas) subject to prior agreement with the Owner.
8. All other preparation of surfaces required for installation of resilient flooring including substrate preparation, and supply and installation of self-levelling cementitious underlayments and poured latex toppings. Shot blasting of overly smooth concrete surfaces to facilitate mechanical key for adhesive or cementitious underlayment.....
9.Trowelled-on latex underlayment except when specified in conjunction with specific installation systems.
10. Maintenance and protection of installed resilient flooring prior to Substantial Performance. Such protection shall be provided by others using materials and methods acceptable to the resilient floor covering manufacturer.
11. Repairs to damage by others during and after completion and acceptance of the work.
12. Cleaning and sealing or the application of any other type of protective coatings, unless specified.
13. Final cleaning, except as noted in the NFCA Manual.
14. Base to demountable partitions, unless specified.
15. Loose laid resilient mats and runners.
16. Resilient flooring as an integral part of access flooring systems, unless specified.
17. Resilient bulletin / tack boards on walls, unless specified.
18. Resilient desk top coverings to millwork, unless specified.
19. ( Where flash cove base is required) Repairs to drywall sheets installed short of sub-floor
