NFCA 2026 AGM Highlights Excellence in Flooring and Substrate Preparation

Industry experts convene to discuss critical concrete challenges and honour the Canadian flooring sector’s top craftsmen and trailblazers.

VANCOUVER, May 21, 2026 – The National Floor Covering Association of Canada (NFCA) recently held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and inaugural Circle of Excellence in Floor Covering Installation Awards in Calgary, Alberta. The event brought together leading contractors, installers, and construction professionals to discuss the future of the flooring trade and recognize the nation’s top craftspeople.

The AGM focused on elevating installation standards, addressing industry talent gaps, and bridging the divide between concrete construction and floor covering requirements.

A major highlight of the AGM was the keynote address delivered by Calgary Construction Association (CCA) President Bill Black who gave an overview of the Alberta and Calgary market and the future workforce. He also set an empowering tone by emphasizing the undeniable value of collaboration, emphasizing that meaningful dialogue across all facets of the industry, including general contractors, architects, designers, and trades, is essential for progress. Ultimately, our sector’s resilience, sustainability, and long-term growth depend on our willingness to reach out, share our challenges, and work together on actionable solutions.

The keynote was followed by a panel discussion tackling the common divide between concrete preparation (Division 3) and flooring tolerances (Division 9). This session underscored the NFCA’s core mission to close this industry gap and help contractors mitigate costly moisture issues and subfloor claims.” Guest panelists, Nelson Samayoa of New Gen Floor Systems and Bill Clyne of FST Design Build Concrete.

Following the panel, NFCA, along with their Premier Partners, proudly handed out the Circle of Excellence in Floor Covering Installation Awards. Designed to elevate the trade, the awards celebrated the unwavering dedication of professionals who build the industry’s reputation through mastery, mentorship, and leadership.

“NFCA is thrilled to honor the craftsmen and women who set a new standard for our industry and inspire the next generation of installers,” said NFCA CEO Chris Maskell. “These awards reflect the pinnacle of technical skill and commitment to the trade, and we could not have done this without the visionary support of our Premier Partners”.
